Common Problems We Fix for Newville Property Owners

Newville homes face a range of damage threats throughout the year. Knowing the warning signs early can prevent a small problem from turning into a costly repair.

Water Damage from Plumbing Failures and Storms

Burst pipes, failed water heaters, and appliance leaks are among the leading causes of indoor water damage in Newville homes. Older properties with aging supply lines are especially vulnerable during winter freeze-thaw cycles. Water can spread into wall cavities and subfloors within hours, and damage is often hidden until it becomes severe. Professional extraction and structural drying stop the spread and prevent lasting structural harm.

Fire and Smoke-Related Damage

Even a contained kitchen fire can leave smoke residue throughout an entire Newville home, penetrating drywall, HVAC systems, and soft furnishings. Smoke damage causes ongoing odor and surface deterioration if not treated promptly with professional cleaning methods. Older homes with open floor plans or original woodwork are particularly susceptible to widespread smoke migration. Restoration involves controlled demolition of charred materials, HEPA cleaning, and full deodorization.

Mold Growth in Damp Basements and Crawl Spaces

Newville’s humid summer months combined with older basement construction create conditions where mold can take hold quickly after any moisture event. Mold often grows behind drywall, under flooring, and inside crawl spaces where it is not visible until a musty odor or health symptom prompts investigation. Left untreated, mold compromises indoor air quality and weakens structural materials over time. Remediation requires containment, removal of affected materials, antimicrobial treatment, and moisture source correction.

Storm Damage to Roofs, Siding, and Windows

The Cumberland Valley experiences powerful thunderstorms and occasional high-wind events that can strip shingles, crack siding, and break window seals on Newville homes. Once the building envelope is compromised, rainwater enters quickly and begins saturating insulation, framing, and interior finishes. Homeowners sometimes miss early signs like water stains on ceilings or swelling door frames until secondary damage is already underway. Our storm response team secures the structure, extracts standing water, and coordinates full repairs to restore your home.

Our basement flooded due to a broken sewer pipe. Major did a wonderful job of clean-up. Anthony and Cam did an awesome job of putting our room back together the way it was before the flooding. I would highly recommend Major and Anthony and Cam!

We can’t say enough amazing things about Major Restoration Services! After an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience with ServPro, Major Restorations came in and completely turned our situation around. From the very first phone call to the final walk-through, they were fair, transparent, and professional every step of the way. Duy was incredible—he came out right away to assess the water damage, had a detailed estimate to us the same day, and got the job started the very next morning. From there, the entire project was completed in less than a month! He even reviewed our outrageous invoice from ServPro and pointed out where they were clearly overcharging us. His honesty and industry knowledge were such a breath of fresh air. Tyler started tear-out and water remediation and was fantastic—thorough and clearly knew exactly what needed to be done. Jay and Cameron took care of the remodel and we couldn’t be happier with the quality of their work. They were friendly, respectful, and clearly cared about doing the job right. We truly hope we never need water damage services again, but if we do—or need any remodel work—Major Restoration Services will be our very first call. This is a company that genuinely cares about their clients and takes pride in doing the job right. They’ve earned our trust and our business for life!

I wanted to make sure I leave a review of the team at Major Restoration. I purchased my first home in May of 2024. Within days of moving in, I had a plumbing issue that needed immediate correction. I contacted my insurance company who has a national contract with another national restoration service. After the initial company came to my house, they remediated the sewage damage and I was told I would be contacted by the restoration team to complete the restoration. MONTHS went by with little to no response from the other company. After getting the run around for months and not having use of my first level and full bathroom, I had my fill of the nonsense. I reached out to Major Restoration, hoping beyond hope that the team there could help me. My initial call was exactly what I needed at the time - I was met with compassion and quick estimate set up. Duoy and Brian came out to see what was left after the other company refused to complete the work. They were extremely kind, compassionate and thorough, ensuring that the estimate they worked up for the insurance company would completely restore my first level and get me whole again. Within weeks, the team at Major Restoration begun the work of putting things back together for me. They worked with a plumbing sub-con, DeRose Plumbing, who were also very kind, respectful and understanding. Major didn't just restore my first level - they made the space BETTER than it was when I bought it. The work they did was NEXT LEVEL. My family room, bathroom and laundry room are the showpiece of my house now, thanks to Major! I can't recommend this team enough. They were thorough, professional, kind and respectful. Every single team member, from the estimate team to the restoration crew to the office staff, treated me with respect and kindness, and the restoration work was completed impeccably. My only regret is that I listened to my insurance company and allowed them to pull in a national company to address the issue. In the future, my first choice will be Major Restoration.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Water Damage Restoration

Here are honest answers to the questions Newville homeowners ask us most often before and after a water damage event.

Water damage restoration in Newville typically ranges from $1,500 to $7,000 depending on the size of the affected area, the category of water involved, and how far moisture has spread into structural materials. Minor incidents like a single room with a supply line leak tend to fall in the lower range, while multi-room flooding or contaminated water events cost more. We provide a written estimate after an on-site assessment, and we work directly with your insurance carrier to maximize your claim.

Most water damage restoration projects in Newville take between three and seven days from initial extraction through final clearance testing. The drying phase alone requires a minimum of 48 to 72 hours with commercial equipment running continuously. If reconstruction of damaged drywall, flooring, or cabinetry is needed, the overall timeline may extend to two or three weeks depending on material availability and scope of repairs.

In Newville, permits are generally not required for emergency water extraction and drying work. However, if the restoration involves structural repairs such as replacing load-bearing elements, electrical work, or significant drywall and framing reconstruction, a building permit through Cumberland County or the Borough of Newville may be required. Major Restoration handles permit identification and filing as part of the reconstruction phase so you do not have to navigate that process alone.

Most standard homeowner’s insurance policies in Newville cover sudden and accidental water damage, such as a burst pipe or appliance leak, but they typically exclude damage from long-term neglect or groundwater flooding. Flood-specific damage usually requires a separate National Flood Insurance Program policy. Major Restoration documents all damage thoroughly and communicates directly with your adjuster to support your claim and help you understand what your policy covers.
