Common Problems We Fix for Railroad Homeowners

Knowing the warning signs of property damage early can save you thousands. Our team helps Railroad residents identify and resolve issues before they become full-scale disasters.

Water Damage from Plumbing Failures and Storms

Burst pipes, failed water heaters, and storm-driven runoff are among the most common causes of water damage in Railroad homes. Older housing stock in the borough often has aging supply lines and drainage systems that are prone to failure during freezing winters or heavy spring rain events. Warning signs include wet drywall, warped flooring, and musty odors in lower levels. Our team extracts standing water, dries structural materials, and fully documents the damage for insurance purposes.

Fire and Smoke-Related Damage

House fires in smaller rural boroughs like Railroad can spread quickly due to the proximity of neighboring properties and older building materials. Even a small kitchen fire leaves smoke residue embedded in walls, ceilings, and HVAC systems throughout the home. Discoloration, persistent odor, and soot staining are the clearest warning signs. Major Restoration removes char, neutralizes smoke odor at the source, and restores affected rooms to a livable condition with full structural repairs where needed.

Mold Growth in Damp Basements and Crawl Spaces

Railroad sits in a humid region of York County where moisture builds up in basements and crawl spaces throughout the warmer months. Homes near creek corridors or with poor vapor barriers are especially vulnerable to chronic dampness that feeds mold colonies. Dark spots on walls, a musty smell, and allergy-like symptoms in occupants are key warning signs. Our remediation process includes containment, safe removal, and treatment with antimicrobial agents to prevent recurrence.

Storm Damage to Roofs, Siding, and Windows

Southern York County sees its share of severe thunderstorms, high winds, and occasional ice storms that can strip shingles, crack siding, and break window seals on Railroad properties. Damage that goes unaddressed even briefly allows water to infiltrate the building envelope and cause secondary damage to insulation and framing. Missing shingles, dented gutters, and drafty windows after a storm are signs you need an assessment right away. Major Restoration handles emergency tarping, full roof repair, siding replacement, and window restoration.

Our basement flooded due to a broken sewer pipe. Major did a wonderful job of clean-up. Anthony and Cam did an awesome job of putting our room back together the way it was before the flooding. I would highly recommend Major and Anthony and Cam!

We can’t say enough amazing things about Major Restoration Services! After an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience with ServPro, Major Restorations came in and completely turned our situation around. From the very first phone call to the final walk-through, they were fair, transparent, and professional every step of the way. Duy was incredible—he came out right away to assess the water damage, had a detailed estimate to us the same day, and got the job started the very next morning. From there, the entire project was completed in less than a month! He even reviewed our outrageous invoice from ServPro and pointed out where they were clearly overcharging us. His honesty and industry knowledge were such a breath of fresh air. Tyler started tear-out and water remediation and was fantastic—thorough and clearly knew exactly what needed to be done. Jay and Cameron took care of the remodel and we couldn’t be happier with the quality of their work. They were friendly, respectful, and clearly cared about doing the job right. We truly hope we never need water damage services again, but if we do—or need any remodel work—Major Restoration Services will be our very first call. This is a company that genuinely cares about their clients and takes pride in doing the job right. They’ve earned our trust and our business for life!

I wanted to make sure I leave a review of the team at Major Restoration. I purchased my first home in May of 2024. Within days of moving in, I had a plumbing issue that needed immediate correction. I contacted my insurance company who has a national contract with another national restoration service. After the initial company came to my house, they remediated the sewage damage and I was told I would be contacted by the restoration team to complete the restoration. MONTHS went by with little to no response from the other company. After getting the run around for months and not having use of my first level and full bathroom, I had my fill of the nonsense. I reached out to Major Restoration, hoping beyond hope that the team there could help me. My initial call was exactly what I needed at the time - I was met with compassion and quick estimate set up. Duoy and Brian came out to see what was left after the other company refused to complete the work. They were extremely kind, compassionate and thorough, ensuring that the estimate they worked up for the insurance company would completely restore my first level and get me whole again. Within weeks, the team at Major Restoration begun the work of putting things back together for me. They worked with a plumbing sub-con, DeRose Plumbing, who were also very kind, respectful and understanding. Major didn't just restore my first level - they made the space BETTER than it was when I bought it. The work they did was NEXT LEVEL. My family room, bathroom and laundry room are the showpiece of my house now, thanks to Major! I can't recommend this team enough. They were thorough, professional, kind and respectful. Every single team member, from the estimate team to the restoration crew to the office staff, treated me with respect and kindness, and the restoration work was completed impeccably. My only regret is that I listened to my insurance company and allowed them to pull in a national company to address the issue. In the future, my first choice will be Major Restoration.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Water Damage Restoration

Get honest answers to the questions Railroad homeowners ask us most often about water damage restoration.

Costs in Railroad typically range from $1,500 for minor water intrusion to $8,000 or more for significant flooding with structural drying and repairs. The final price depends on the size of the affected area, materials involved, and contamination level. Most homeowner insurance policies cover a significant portion of the cost, and we help you navigate that process.

Most water damage jobs in Railroad take between three and seven days from initial extraction through full structural drying. Larger losses involving flooring replacement or drywall repair can extend the timeline to two to three weeks. We give you a clear timeline estimate after the initial assessment so you know what to expect.

Straightforward water extraction and drying work generally does not require a permit in Railroad Borough. However, structural repairs, electrical work, or significant reconstruction following water damage may require permits through York County or the borough’s building office. Major Restoration handles the permit research and application process as part of our full-service restoration approach.

Most standard homeowner policies in Railroad cover sudden and accidental water damage such as burst pipes or appliance failures, but typically exclude damage from long-term leaks or ground flooding. We recommend reviewing your policy before work begins, and our team can work directly with your adjuster to document the damage thoroughly. We bill insurers directly whenever possible to simplify the process for you.
